I mounted a motorcycle tire...because that's how I roll!

Recently over on ST.N, a chick down in Virginia was looking for a recommendation for a local shop to get her tires changed.  Chris suggested she do it herself because, "It really is stupid easy."  A little banter with Jerry and next thing I knew, I was being volunteered to mount the next tire.  It turns out, it really *IS* stupid easy!

First order of business...straighten the cotter pin for the axle nut.

Next, pull up on the cotter pin for the axle nut.

The next step was to remove the brake caliper bracket bolt.
This was really tight...I had to put some oomph into it!

After that, I removed the axle nut.  This one was even tighter!

Using a hammer, I tapped the axle out the other side.

I gently pulled the axle out on the left and removed a greasy wheel spacer on the right.

Then I wiggled the wheel off of the drive splines.

Next it was over to the tire changer to break the bead.

Channeling my inner Judas Priest...breaking the bead, breaking the bead!

Next, I clamped the wheel on top of the tire changer
and applied lube to the tire to get it off...
...the rim.

Here I am using the MoJo bar to get the tire off the rim.

Notice the look of concern; I had to be careful not to scrape the rim or the brake rotor.
The brake rotor is easy to bend if you're not careful

Old tire off, new tire ready to go...

...but not before I goof off a little!

Checking the tire to make sure the arrows and tire tread are pointing in the right direction.
Next I used the MoJo bar to mount the tire on the rim.

Here I am putting the valve core back in the valve stem.

After seating the bead by inflating the tire,
here I am with the new Michelin Pilot Road 3 rear tire for our Concours 14.
Part Two of the "new rear tire" adventure will be tomorrow night - balancing and installation.  I didn't get home until 6:30, it was after 7:30 by the time I seated the bead on the tire, and we'd yet to eat dinner.  Plus, this way...I get two blog posts out of it!  :)
